Borderlands 3 has also been removed from the Epic Games Store Mega Sale

Borderlands 3 Teaser Trailer Revealed

Now before you freak out and think the game is coming back to Steam on launch, slow down. That headline only reflects the fact that Gearbox has decided to removed pre-orders of Borderlands 3 from the Epic Games Store amid the Mega Sale on the PC gaming storefront.

Epic previously revealed a massive discount on their entire library of games for sale on their digital store, offering a $10 discount on any game priced over $14.99. This means that dozens upon dozens of games got major discounts of up to 75%. Gamers have rushed over to the store to snap up anticipated title, but developers and publishers have rushed equally fast to Epic, removing their games. This is being done, and was done for titles like Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines 2 and Oxygen Not Included, to prevent gamers from exploiting the discount to get games for cheaper than sticker price.

Flippers and eager fans alike have taken advantage of this $10 discount to grab tons of PC games for cheap, which is probably a big concern for publishers as they want to minimize the ability of grey market sellers to exploit their games. Although we can expect 2K games to honor pre-orders for those who got Borderlands 3 before it was pulled from the Epic Games Store.

Epic has been getting plenty of flak for how they’ve been essentially throwing money around to try and compete with Steam. Not only is the strategy untenable, gamers really hate change as a reflexive response. So even as the idea of challenging Steam’s monopoly is a good thing, many cite issues with Epic and their storefront as reasoning for a bungled attempt.

No public announcement has been made justifying the removal, but everyone expects Borderlands 3 to return to the Epic store after the Mega Sale ends.

Borderlands 3 will release later this year on September 13 for PS4, Xbox One and PC, although the latter of those will be exclusive to the Epic Games Store.
