Black Desert Online bringing PS4 and Xbox One cross-play next month

Black Desert Online reveals new Succession skills

Kakao and Pearl Abyss teased a new announcement that means good things are coming for the console versions of Black Desert Online.  As per the announcement, the MMO is getting full cross-play on both PS4 and Xbox One. Cross-play is something that players on any platform have always wanted in multiplayer games and seeing the gap closing between PS4 and Xbox one is always great. Fans of BDO will now be able to play together on either platform.

Black Desert Online will use a server structure that maintains both normal segmented servers and those with mixed populations. The cross-play servers will remain separate and will be clearly marked. The various features in terms of localization and gameplay elements will be enabled on the cross-play servers in the same way they are on the normal ones. After cross-play launches, Conquest and Node Wars will take place in the cross-play servers of their specific region. This means that Balenos, Serendia, and Calpheon Node/Conquest wars will be open to all adventurers regardless of platform. Players will also be able to join guilds in this new environment.

Some people might be concerned with splitting the player base between two sets of servers, but it shouldn’t make too much of a difference. Black Desert Online has had more than 30 million registered players over the course of its life, and the game has generated more than $1.5 billion in revenue over the years.

Black Desert Online is out now for PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Android, and iOS. Watch the announcement below.
