Bethesda will offer replacement canvas bags after controversy

Fallout 76 Power Armor Edition

By now, everyone has heard of Fallout 76 and the huge amount of backlash surrounding the adventure game. Despite some gamers really enjoying their time with it, there have been some serious missteps on behalf of Bethesda that have really soured public perception of the game for some.

In addition to the massive amount of reports of bugs, crashes and gameplay issues players were experiencing, there was a monumental screwup in regards to the obscenely expensive $200 “Power Armor Edition”. You see, the original version of the collector’s edition was billed as including a few goodies for the Fallout fan in your life.

The original Power Amor Edition was supposed to come with various things like a full-size helmet, figurines, a map and most importantly, a neat branded bag. That bag was meant to be made of high-quality canvas, but the final product was actually made of a much cheaper nylon alternative.

The original plan was that Bethesda would offer $5 worth of in-game microtransaction currency as an apology for what many people angered by the switch called “false advertising”. Now whether that characterization is actually true is beyond the scope here, and is actually the domain of the relevant legal system, but Bethesda is clearly looking to make things better by actually delivering on the initially promised goods.

Bethesda has announced a new plan to help assuage some negative backlash by sending buyers a replacement bag made out of the originally promised canvas material. And given the massive amount of angry gamers that were really ticked off at Bethesda and their initial response to the problem, it seems like the next logical step. Although it may be too little, too late, in terms of salvaging the public opinion around Fallout 76.
