Methods and Helpful Hints
GATEs
One of the more challenging, but engaging, ways to farm MGP in Final Fantasy XIV is to do GATE quests. They take place every 20 minutes in the Gold Saucer and are random mini-games each time. They’re very fun if you can master them. Why not give them a spin when you’re in town.
Here are some of the best GATEs for farming MGP:
- Cliffhanger (3.000 MGP)
- Air Force One (4.000 MGP)
- Leap of Faith (4.000 MGP)
- Any Way the Wind Blows (7.500 MGP)
- The Slice is Right (5.000 MGP)
Triple Triad Matches
This is one of the easier ways to earn MGP in the game. Completing just the solo Triple Triad Matches can earn a ton of MGP, up to 13,000. But it’s the tournaments you really want. Winning one of those can earn up to 18,500 MGP. You can just play Jonas of the Tree Spades in the Gold Saucer to get the basic MGP challenges out of the way. And the best part is, it’s just like the classic FF8 card game.
Jumbo and Mini Cactpot
Jumbo and Mini Cactpot are basically lottery mini-games, either in weekly or daily variants. Each one costs MGP to enter and has rewards depending on which version you play.
The bigger payoff comes from the Jumbo Cactpot game. You buy tickets each week, with prizes drawn each Saturday. Visit the Golden Saucer each Saturday to see the prize draw and claim any rewards you have. Three Tickets costs 100 MGP. The reward starts at the base of 1,000 MGP for the winner, with it scaling upwards based on the number of tickets sold that week. Every ticket after that initial three buy-in also costs 50 MGP extra.
Mini Cactpot is another option as well, as it’s a bit easier. It’s a daily event that’s a bit easier than the Jumbo variant, and it has a lower cost of entry: 10 MGP.
It’s very basic, you have a 3 x 3 square that has one digit revealed. Your job is to choose three other numbers to reveal via a scratchoff. The sum of the numbers in the row you choose determines how much MGP you get in return. The rewards are random, and not as good as the Jumbo version, but it’s a very quick method that can get you up to 10,000 MGP. You can only do this three times per day though.
Chocobo Races
These races will spawn as weekly and daily events in the game. All you need to do is compete and come in first a few times to earn a nice chunk of MGP. You don’t have to win, so just have fun with it.
And even if you’re not that good at them, they can be tons of fun. You don’t need to be super good and come in first to earn MGP though, which is nice. So have some fun and try a few races to see if the method fits you.
Gold Saucer VIP Card
The Gold Saucer VIP Card is a great help for farming the MGP tokens. This consumable will give you a 2-hour boost to your drop rate of MGP from Chocobo Races, Mini Games, GATEs, and both Cactpots. However, it does not include Challenge Logs. So keep a few of these on-hand to help speed up farming when you’ve found your proven method.
