Become iconic - A guide to items in Cyberpunk 2077

There are plenty of weapons, clothing, and customizable gear you can find in Cyberpunk 2077. Some of it’s just for looks, other packs a little more punch. The variety is seemingly pretty endless, as the game even borrows the rarity tiers from other RPGs. There are so many in the game, that it’s impossible to list them all. But to help you make it through the game, here’s a guide that lays down the basics of different types of items in Cyberpunk 2077.

Consumables and Gadgets

Consumables and Combat Gadgets are a very important part of the gameplay. You might also want to take a look at your Cyberware guide to know what kinds of upgrades are on the table for your characters.

Combat Gadgets are equipped in your Combat Gadget Quickslot and can be used at any time. Each one has a different effect, and the one’s you use better be suited to the situation. If you’re going into a Bounty that has a target who is immune to shocks, don’t bring electrical damage or those kinds of stuns to the fight. You will be swapping your loadout a lot in this game. You can use some Combat Gadgets as personal use items, others can be thrown. Read over the item description to figure out how best to use it, and feel free to try and experiment.

Your consumables also come with a dedicated slot and a quick-use button. This is key when you’re in the middle of a firefight and need to heal. Aside from healing items, food and the like, there are boosters that alter your stats temporarily that must be activated in your inventory, and cannot be assigned to a slot.

Weapons Galore

Weapon types are another area of concern for many players. There are three main kinds of weapons. Each on has their own impacts and effects, and is based around a particular stat. Focus on a type of weapon that fits your playstyle. Weapons are manufactured by 12 corporations in the Cyberpunk 2077 universe. Weapons availability are based on the class of weapons of the manufactures. Each manufacture is under either Lower, Middle, or Upper Tier. The higher the tier the more rare and expensive the weapons are.

  • Power Weapons – These are the generic direct-fire weapons of the game world. They’re not a slough either, with the right mod combos, they can be made to shoot through walls and track targets. Buffed by the Reflex stat.
  • Tech Weapons – Tech weapons are weapons that use rail gun technology, firing projectiles that are propelled with an electromagnetic charge.  Great for downing hardened targets. Buffed by the Technical stat.
  • Smart Weapons – Incredibly powerful weapons that can offer some rather interesting interactions. These weapons will allow you to shoot around corners and through cover without a line of sight. Buffed by the Intelligence stat.

All ammo between pistols, revolvers, shotguns, rifles, and sniper rifles is shared between all weapons of the same category, so you don’t have to worry about buying 20 different kinds of ammo. You can also augment weapons with various sights and other attachments to change and improve their effects. For more on that, check out our Weapons and Mods guide. But there is one thing you really should be aware of. Iconic Items.

What the heck are Iconic Items?

The Iconic Items are a bit like the Unique weapons from the Borderlands games. They all have unique names and effects, and are unique to that version. They’re some of the rarest and weirdest weapons in the game, so they’re something to chase after. You can use them to go around and do a ton of damage to the world, so use them carefully. You can often get them as quest rewards or from Bounty bosses, but there is one other way to get them.

Whenever you pick up an iconic item, you also gain its crafting blueprint. This will be pretty useful for making money, for more tips on that check out our money-making guide for Cyberpunk. Anyway, when you have a blueprint, you need to gather components and the requisite skills to make the item.

When you first fire up the game, you only have access to a few basic items, mostly a few uncommon pieces of gear and some basic healing and support items. From there, you’re supposed to go around completing missions and gathering gear to get some more powerful options. There is a chance that during the rarest bounties, the Five Star ones, you will encounter a higher tier of rarity, the Legendary items.

The trouble is, even if you loot these items, often referred to as Iconic Items, you won’t be able to craft them right away. You will need to unlock a certain perk for that rarity tier. Here are the perks you need for each class of weapon:

  • Rare Items – True Craftsman Perk
  • Epic Items – Grease Monkey Perk
  • Legendary Items – Edgerunner Artisan Perk

Once you really get deep into the crafting system, you can make some stupidly powerful gear. For Legendary or Iconic items, you need to get Edgerunner Perk and have a certain amount of Points in Technical, 18 to be exact. For more on stats and how to build a character, you will want our Attribute Points guide.

This basically means that if you invest enough points into Technical you gain access to super-powerful gear and some rather lethal combat drones. Not a bad way to make it out of Night City alive.
