Baldur’s Gate 3 adding Clerics and more in future updates

Guide to Combat Basics in Baldur's Gate 3

Baldur’s Gate 3 by Larian Studios came out into Early Access back in October 2020. Since then, the demo has effectively been quiet. Larian has been prepping more updates though, and we finally have details on what’s coming. The current version has about 20 hours of content and includes a fair amount of things to do, but also a ton of bugs.

The developer has been working on some new features, and some are already in the game. The developers have been focusing on altering the party system to allow for more player influence. The new features will allow players to shift their party member alignment somewhat over the course of the game. The big goal here is to get into the game and have even more impact on the story.

The players are also getting some updates that add more mechanics and a bunch of new items. There are more quality-of-life features on the way as well. The gamers looking for more depth in the game’s future should be pretty happy.

The new Update 4 will be the biggest in the history of the game yet. Once it’s you, you will be getting a ton of new items to deal with. But the biggest single change is the addition of the Cleric class in Baldur’s Gate 3.

The Cleric is a mixture of fighter and spellcaster that allows for more interesting interactions with the world around you. Their spells are focused on summoning and buffing animal companions to do the fighting and exploration for them. They also use nature magics to offer healing and support abilities to the party. At higher levels, you can even use transformation abilities to alter your shape and stats to those of a chosen form. The class also comes with two specializations, Circle of the Land and the Circle of the Moon. The former is all about magic that’s more in line with traditional spellcasters, while the latter variant is more the animal handler archetype.

Update 4 also adds loaded dice. The loaded dice are a gameplay addition aimed at helping players fudge rolls during key moments. The dice rolling is already really well represented in this RPG, so adding a new layer to that is always welcome.

Other additions include a bunch of technical fixes. Improved cinematics and dialogue continue to be a goal for Larian, as they strive to add more and more depth to the world and performances. Over time, we will likely see more polish in this area. We can also expect plenty of bug fixes in Update 4 as well.

Also, a final note is that Larian seems to be working out some issues. One concern they have is file sizes. This is a massive RPG, and the devs want everyone to be able to play. That means that users on data restrictions can have a hard time downloading huge patches. The development team is working on ways to shrink down future patches and updates.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is still in early access, and you can grab it on Steam, Epic Games Store, GOG, or Stadia.
