Assassin’s Creed live-action series in the works for Netflix

Netflix has been hitting it out of the park with a few gaming-related properties as of late. The Witcher series was pretty well-received and is on its way to becoming a full titan of the fantasy genre. And it seems like Netflix is working with Ubisoft to try and repeat that success with a new games franchise. A new teaser reveals that a partnership has been agreed upon between Netflix and Ubisoft to develop an Assassin’s Creed live-action series for the streaming platform.

Ubisoft Film & Television’s Jason Altman and Danielle Kreinik will serve as Executive Producers. These two will help steer the project in a faithful direction while also giving the execs what they want. Basically doing what an executive producer does. As the series is clearly in early pre-production details are limited.

We don’t know when an Assassin’s Creed live-action series will release or who that cast will be. Now until we hear more, fans are sure to be speculating away about what characters we will see on the small screen. Fans won’t have to wait to get more action out of the franchise though. The next game to launch will be Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla set for release on Xbox Series S/X, Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC on November 10. A PS5 version is due a short while later on November 12.

Speaking about the potential for the project, some higher-ups at the company seemed pretty excited. It seems like both companies are pretty psyched about the whole idea. Getting the legendary franchise exposed to new eyes could be great for the long-term life of the games.

Jason Altman, Head of Ubisoft Film & Television – Los Angeles, said:

“For more than 10 years, millions of fans around the world have helped shape the Assassin’s Creed brand into an iconic franchise. We’re thrilled to create an Assassin’s Creed series with Netflix and we look forward to developing the next saga in the Assassin’s Creed universe.”

Peter Friedlander, Vice President at Netflix Original Series, added:

“We’re excited to partner with Ubisoft and bring to life the rich, multilayered storytelling that Assassin’s Creed is beloved for. From its breathtaking historical worlds and massive global appeal as one of the best selling video game franchises of all time, we are committed to carefully crafting epic and thrilling entertainment based on this distinct IP and provide a deeper dive for fans and our members around the world to enjoy.”\
