Arma 3, the genre leader when it comes to hyper-realism and military shooter sims being accessible to the average gamer, is getting a new expansion. The content pack is called Contact, and it’s taking the otherwise normal Arma 3 experience to infinity and beyond. Although you won’t be flying with Buzz Lightyear this time around.
Arma 3 Contact features a new map along with two new factions, five weapons, two vehicles, and a bunch of other minor additions. All of this combines together to form the base for an entirely new singleplayer campaign. Bohemia Interactive is working to craft a much more story-driven experience this time around. They’re attempting to accomplish this by using a wide array of non-combat gameplay. Players will use various tools and techniques to unravel a vast conspiracy and the mystery surrounding some strange alien menace. But rest assured, there will still be plenty of shooting.
These tools are where things get kind of interesting, as the new Spectrum Device is a modular system that can fill multiple roles like scanning and information processing. And you’ll need the help too because the new map is massive, it’s akin to 163 km2 in size and is set in the fictional nation of Livonia.
So if you’ve ever wondered what the military approach to extraterrestrial life might look like, Arma 3 Contact might have the answer when it drops later this Summer.
Along with said announcement, we’ve gotten a new trailer showing off the impending alien fun.
And in addition to the expansion, the developers are dropping a free content patch that gives anyone who owns Arma 3 a bunch of goodies. These include NATO woodland camouflage, civilian clothing, 100+ decorative props and terrain objects, and more.
Arma 3 Contact releases on July 25 for $27.99, but of course, there’s a collector’s edition that’s available as well. This $169 physical Collector’s Edition includes:
