Apex Legends is a very complex game, offering myriad hero choices along with their associated powers within a competitive shooter is already a lot of information. And the already daunting task is made even more difficult to comprehend for new players when you include all the different weapons, map locales and gameplay quirks that the game has to offer. But luckily for said new folks, Respawn is looking toward the future with building a full training mode designed to take the guess work out of learning this video game.
Respawn is finally adding a full training mode to Apex Legends which is designed to teach you how to play. You will get access to the full suite of different heroes, gear and powers, but how to use them and do so effectively will be somewhat drip fed to the player. As you jump and slide around with a hero, targets will present for you to test out various weapons on. The game will also give you some points to test out each of your hero powers, helping to explain when and where to use these powers. This should help newer gamers to the arena learn the situational utility they need to know the limits of such abilities. The mode will also include a full firing range for more controlled testing of weapons.
Previously to this new mode being added, Apex Legends took a much more “trial by fire” approach to bringing new players into the fray. Hopefully a more controlled acclimation period will help with long-term player retention.
And although there’s not much detailed so far for Season 4 and beyond, you can bet the developers are hard at work on more content. But don’t be fooled into thinking that a new mode for acclimating new players is all that they have planned. Who knows, if the fanbase screams loud enough, maybe Respawn will add something new to the game in the same way this new training mode is being introduced.
Other Plans for the Future?
During a recent developer stream, Respawn teased this and much more as being planned for future updates to the competitive shooter. You can find that livestream down below. The updated training mode doesn’t have a release date just yet, but there’s still something new on the horizon. Respawn will be kicking off the festive mood for October with the upcoming launch of the Fight or Fright event in-game.
Apex Legends is available now for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. If you’ve got a hankering for multiplayer action and want something a lot more fast-paced than Overwatch, this might be for you.
