We already knew that Apex Legends Season 8 was going to be big. We just found out this week that it’s actually going to be huge for the game. We now have some more confirmed details of the Apex Legends Nintendo Switch port and its release. And with nearly 80m Switch consoles out there right now, that’s a huge userbase. So there’s one burning question that fans want to know. Will Apex Legends Nintendo Switch have cross-play? But first, let’s talk about how the game got here.
To put it simply, the port is the result of hard work. EA and Respawn have been helped out by Panic Button, who have become masters of porting massive titles to the portable platform. That’s the team that managed to get various games running on Switch like DOOM Eternal, Wolfenstein: Youngblood, and Warframe.
“Porting Apex Legends to its smallest screen yet is a major achievement,” said Game director Chad Grenier. “We couldn’t have done it without our friends at Panic Button. We’re very proud of what the team has been able to achieve with some smart optimizations for the Switch port to deliver a full-featured Apex Legends experience on the go.”
Will Apex Legends be cross-play compatible on the Nintendo Switch?
Apex Legends is coming to the Nintendo Switch on March 9, Respawn announced this week. The Switch version of Apex comes a few weeks into Season 8, but otherwise has all the full-fat features of its bigger cousins. The controls, weapon choices and hero roster are all going to be there when the port launches.
By making various optimizations to the game on Switch, the team is hopeful that the game will run well enough to even the competitive playing field a bit. So while the game will be well-adapted to the portable console, some are still suspicious of how well they will do against seasoned PC players. The control differences may make for an uphill battle to compete. We will have to wait and see how much of that comes into play this March.
Apex Legends is currently available on Playstation, Xbox, and PC.
