Apex Legends issuing hardware bans to cheaters

Apex Legends

Apex Legends is really popular, no one can dispute that. And with that wave of hype comes a huge influx of cheaters. Of course this is always the case with any multiplayer game, especially one that’s so popular, that people will try to cheat their way to victory. Whether through a lack of skill and trying to compensate, or simply wanting to screw with other players, cheaters have flocked to Apex.

Like in other games with botting and cheating problems, there’s always growing pains. Epic and their flagship battle royal, Fortnite, has had a rash of cheaters for years, and it continues to be an issue, one that players vocally complain about online. It turns out that Respawn and EA aren’t taking it gentle with cheaters though.

Judging from the exasperated reactions of cheaters on various hangouts, Apex Legends if being very heavy-handed with the banhammer. after already banning more than 350,000 cheater accounts, Respawn has begun issuing automatic hardware-level bans to cheaters in their game.

Hackers and cheaters in Apex have been running rampant since the game launched last month, and it appears as though the developers are taking a more active stance to combat them. The choice to issue such thorough bans, much to the chagrin of cheaters, is clearly aimed at becoming a major deterrent against the practice of hacking. Although it will likely take time to have a major impact.

So all in all, it looks as though the infamous scourge of cheating is getting nuked in Apex Legends. Although Respawn still face an uphill battle based on the pure volume of players. Apex has more than 50 million players after all. So the cat and mouse game of cheaters versus developers will continue. Cheat makers will continue to dig into Apex, trying to find a way to avoid detection, and Respawn will continue to find new anti-cheat measures and issuing bans.
