Ant Man, Captain Marvel, and Dr. Strange will be added to Marvel’s Avengers according to a new rumor based on some data mining. Intrepid gamers have uncovered code in the beta client of the game suggesting multiple heroes from the Marvel canon heading to the game at some point. Marvel’s Avengers launched with only a small roster of heroes including the most iconic Avengers.
Ant Man, Captain Marvel, and Dr. Strange will be added to the game at some point, although dates are still a mystery. So far, multiple other characters have been revealed as well. In addition to those three, it looks like players are getting more than a dozen different new roster additions over time. With the Games-as-a-service model being pushed hard by Crystal Dynamics and Square Enix, there’s a pretty strong likelihood that these characters will be tied to some kind of promotional offer or premium DLC.
So here’s the basic rundown of all the characters found via datamining so far:
- Ant Man
- Black Panther
- Dr Strange
- Winter Soldier
- Scarlet Witch
- Captain Marvel
- Kate Bishop
- She Hulk
- War Machine
The upcoming launch of the game has been somewhat tainted for some gamers because of this focus on GaaS. The announcement of premium cosmetics for certain mobile users was a bit of a shock to some. The developers have also promised “even more PlayStation advantages,” so it’s a very good bet that this practice will continue. And yes, that will come to the chagrin of many gamers not on the Sony or other exclusive platforms.
Marvel’s Avengers will launch for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on September 4, with a PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X version in the future.
