Animal Crossing: New Horizons smashes Switch sales records

Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Animal Crossing: New Horizons, released this past week for the Nintendo Switch, has been a hugely popular video game and has set a new high mark for console game sales. New Horizons had the most successful launch of any Switch title ever in Japan, selling 1.88 million consoles in less than three days since launch. The game has also been met with huge praise from fans of the franchise for adding in a bunch of new features and items, and basically setting a new goal for future games to hit.

The game includes a ton of new mechanics, and plenty of creative options, so players are really happy with that. There are so many different rare and unique items to make and decorate your island paradise with that we made guide for a bunch of them. This amount of hype led to the game becoming one of the most anticipated launches of 2020. And it also led to a huge spike on console sales as well. As tons of new and veteran gamers jump into the world of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, they show it to their friends and clearly the idea at the core of the game is infectious.

Switch and Switch Lite models flew off of the shelves this week, as Famitsu reported that over 392,000 units were sold last week in Japan/ This is higher than the 330,000 units sold in the launch week of the console back in 2017 by the way, just crazy.

The game also topped the charts in the U.K., going straight to No. 1  and blowing away the competition from titles like DOOM: Eternal.
