Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey will be on PC this August

Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey Release Date

Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey finally has a release date, at least for the PC version.

If you’ve never heard of this game, it’s not surprising, it’s a niche title that flew under the radar for a lot of people. Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey is the brainchild of Assassin’s Creed co-creator Patrice Desilets, and is being created by the new studio they helped create, Panache Games.

The game takes the survival adventure concept and pushes in some interesting new layers. It’s a sort of charting mechanism for the evolutionary foundations of humanity as we see them today. The early ancestors of humans evolved more than a million years ago, springing up from various evolutionary cousins after a long chain of interconnected development and habitation. It’s this incredible story that serves as the backdrop for the actual gameplay.

The game itself is built around the core concepts of Evolution, discovery, and survival. As you travel around the prehistoric game world as one member of the largerspecies that predate the evolution of human ancestors like Homo Erectus. Although it looks as though the setup for this game even predates Homo Habilis, but it’s hard to say as the species, tribes and families (the usage of clan in this video is kind of irritating to me, tribe is more accurate in the context shown here) in the game are simply labeled Hominidae as a general designation for certain primate families. OK, scientific nitpicking over, back to the game.

Anyway, the game is a very powerful mix of resource management and conflict that ultimately tells a story about exploration and conquering one’s fear. It’s a great idea and I’m curious how the execution of the final game will turn out.

Check out the trailer for the game down below. The games due for PC on August 27, before heading to Xbox One and PlayStation 4 in December 2019 according to the developer. The PC version will be another Epic Games Store exclusive by the way.
