Sensor Tower, the analysis firm deeply attached to the gaming industry, has released their report on the most-downloaded games in September 2020. And surprising no one, the online multiplayer game Among Us by InnerSloth has been the most popular title. The game achieved a stunning 83.8 Million downloads worldwide from Google Play Store and Apple App Store in the last year. Among Us was released on June 15, 2018, and by the end of September 2020, the game has already generated more than 128.6 million lifetime downloads.
Scribble Rider from Voodoo was the second most installed mobile game worldwide last month with 22.7 million installs. The report from the analysis firm is all focused on mobile gaming, so PC games and the like are not counted, so it’s only really a snapshot of the market. But seeing these numbers from the mobile market hints that these games are doing just as well on consoles and PC.
The United States accounted for nearly 25% of all downloads for the app, owed in big part to the success of the game via Twitch. Proving that once again the attempts to downplay the influence of online video are misplaced.
The newly released RPG gacha game also got a solid spot on the list. The blockbuster RPG Genshin Impact has also exploded on the list. Generating around 6 million total downloads that equated to $60 million in revenue is pretty great. The developer, MiHoYo has even managed to turn a profit on development in just that first month.
Most of the other games on the SensorTower list are generic apps of various kinds that have varying levels of popularity around the world.
