The developers behind sudden smash-hit Among Us have a very important announcement for the future of the game. Instead of putting the work into a new game, they have a new plan, or rather an old one. The original game has now been announced to have a rework, instead of the sequel. As the developers put it, there’s a lot of work to be done. Updating code is hard work, and there’s a lot to be done with Among Us. The developers will now be working on getting the base game ready for a ton of new content.
PuffballsUnited has said that they have a ton of plans on the horizon. For one thing, the plan seems to be to push a bunch of support to the servers for the game. The stability of the multiplayer is pretty key to the ongoing success of the game. The developers have also said that colorblind support will be a priority as well, but with other accessibility options could be on the way.
There have been plenty of server issues, so it’s nice to see that it’s being attended to. The devs will continue to respond to bugs and other issues as they are found and reported.
Us devs have had several long discussions about what we want to do with the game. When do we stop working on Among Us 1? What content goes into Among Us 2? The main reason we are shooting for a sequel is because the codebase of Among Us 1 is so outdated and not built to support adding so much new content. However, seeing how many people are enjoying Among Us 1 really makes us want to be able to support the game and take it to the next level. We have decided to cancel Among Us 2 and instead put all our focus into improving Among Us 1. All of the content we had planned for Among Us 2 will instead go into Among Us 1. This is probably the more difficult choice because it means going deep into the core code of the game and reworking several parts of it. We have lots of things planned and we’re excited to bring new content to everyone as you continue to enjoy playing!
Going deeper here, it’s actually pretty good news. The insanely explosive popularity of the game has come basically out of nowhere. Gamers have surged into the game to play it in big part due to the popularity of the title on Twitch. The game will be getting new maps and other content to bring new players in, as well as keep current ones invested.
Other plans for Among Us include a full friends list system. Players will be able to track who they play with and keep tabs on them in-game. This will also interface with the full accounts system that the team has planned. You will be able to view stats of you and your friends, as well as set certain options to make your experience in the game your own.
