Bandai Namco have given the green light for the release of a set of new trailer for Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown, and they’re pretty awesome.
The biggest part of this batch is the release of the introductory movie cinematic in the form of a trailer. Said trailer focuses on Avril Mead, the airplane mechanic for the Osean Air Force who serves a central part in the overall story and gameplay. This new trailer shows a fair bit about her past, including a chunk of narration. Avril joined the Osean Air Defense, against her late grandfather’s wishes, and went on to become one of the more talented wrench jockeys. Her skill with the craft she maintained even resulting in her being able to craft her own custom airplane, which is really cool.
It’s nice to see a bit more characterization being passed on to other characters in the game, especially one so plucky and skilled as Avril.
Aside from these new intro trailers, there’s yet another aircraft spotlight. The latest trailer, introducing the Russian Sukhoi Su-34 is quite the show. The Su-34 is the relatively recent addition to the Russian airforce in 2014 out in the real world, and it’s great to see the powerful platform rendered in the newest game in the Ace Combat franchise. The hybrid and unbelievably fast fighter-bomber was built to replace the Su-27, and this newest plane was even built from the previous iteration.
The craft is built with multiple capabilities for basic bombs, cannons, missiles and other munitions. With a wide array of capabilities for avionics and other defensive and offensive measures, it looks like players will be able to fulfill a wide variety of missions with this particular bit of destructive brilliance. Russia is also planning on developing new ECM-focused variants of the Su-34 to expand the roles the platform can fill, so maybe we’ll see those in a future game.
In the case of plane highlights, there were videos for the F-18A , as well as the iconic Mig-31B and a trailer focusing on the A-10C Thunderbolt II. Then there was a trailer showcasing the Eurofighter Typhoon. The most recently released trailer for aircraft in Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown was the F-14D Super Tomcat. There was also one for Saab Gripen E.
If you want to get a more firm grasp on what the game will be like on release, there’s plenty of gameplay and other info to check out. You might want to check out the Collector’s Edition which features a scale model and the DLC season pass, if you’re a hardcore fan that is. There’s also a ton of screenshots showing gameplay elements and story to take a peek at. There’s also another longer bit of gameplay showing the “Long Day” mission.
As usual, we put all of the new trailer discussed above at the bottom of the post, check out at your leisure. Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown flies off to store shelves and digital download shops on January 18 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
