Elite: Dangerous Powerplay Update Delayed

Elite-Dangerous-2

Last week saw Frontier Developments announce a launch date for the beta testing of the Elite: Dangerous Powerplay update. Said beta was supposed to get underway today ahead of a full launch for everyone playing the PC and Mac versions of the virtual reality (VR) compatible videogame. Sadly, the developer has recently revealed that the beta won’t be launching today after all, and has been delayed by a week. As a result, the full version will also be pushed back slightly.

“This week we also made the difficult decision to move the Powerplay beta we had planned for May 19 back by up to a week, which will also push back the full release,” Frontier Developments noted in a recent newsletter. “It’s an important update for us and for all of you, and we want it to be great. That’s going to take a little extra time, and we really appreciate your understanding while we put the finishing touches on our biggest Elite: Dangerous update yet. There’s not much longer to wait, we promise!”

Elite: Dangerous Powerplay adds a new faction-based ‘Powers’ system to the space simulation. Players will be able to ally themselves with these factions and then carry out missions for them, gaining Power-exclusive perks and rewards such as new weapons. The update will also bring new characters to the videogame along with an assortment of other tweaks and enhancements.

The Powerplay update may be delayed but Frontier Developments did manage to launch the long awaited Mac version of Elite: Dangerous last week. The company is also working on bringing its title to the Xbox One console later in 2015.
